planned before the pandemic, the changes in oursupport systems and the focus of our team due to the pandemic were necessary items to considerin our research. This led us to include COVID-19 specific interview questions, and the resultsfrom these questions are discussed in their section within the results.4. Participants For this study, we interviewed 8 participants in various academic standings enrolled inengineering programs at a mid-Atlantic US university. This paper presents a detailed account of how one large mid-Atlantic university designeda targeted communication course, which focuses on meeting the communication demands placedon engineers. aspects of computing. Only in computer & info science is the fraction of advanced degrees earned bywomen higher than BS degrees. Biology and biomedicine are the only fields wherewomen students are in the majority, even at MS and PhD levels. Engineering/tech isparticularly male-dominated, followed closely by computer & info science, and thesefields account for higher-paying STEM jobs. Even though the focus in this section is on the US higher-education scene, itmight help to cite data from other advanced countries for comparison. Canadian figuresare similar (~34% of STEM degrees go to women), while the 53% figure for theEuropean Union is much better, although even for EU the percentage drops to ~19% inhigher-paying categories

conducted at a public university in the U.S. Mid-Atlantic region. Through aquasi-experimental design approach, this research assessed the impact of Ed+gineering on PSTs’engineering and pedagogical knowledge and beliefs towards engineering integration. PSTs wereassigned to treatment and comparison groups based on their course section. All participatingcourses had two versions (treatment and comparison) with the same learning objectives andsimilar content. The PSTs in the treatment group completed the Ed+gineering collaborationproject with engineering students as one of their class assignments. The comparison group wascomposed of PSTs enrolled in the same courses as the treatment group, but in sections that didnot participate in the Ed+gineering

study was conducted in the department of engineering at an undergraduate focused teaching-institution located in the mid-Atlantic region of the United states. This engineering departmentoffers a singular Bachelor of Science degree (BS) and is ABET accredited. The capstoneprogram at this department is four semester long with each semester lasting 15 weeks. Theparticipants were third year engineering students in a second semester capstone design class.These students were chosen for the study because while these students have experiencedgenerating concepts for design problems, they have not learned about creativity in a classroomsetting. diversity At first, the assessment showed a disproportionate number of projects were located inurban areas and connected to specific school districts and city administrations, see Figure 2.There were only seven projects that focused on rural school districts, while 21 projects wereconnected to urban school districts. The projects grouped as both urban and rural were all state-wide initiatives where the project outcomes affected both large cities and rural regions.
