It gives them confidence. Since the class projects have been such a success, and since these projects are the best artifacts to present students’ expertise and capabilities, it isnatural to consider them as first choice for an ePortfolio showcase. Mechatronics SpecializationStarting with the 2018-2019 catalog, the EET program is introducing the option formechatronics, as a newly developed concentration area. While the program offers a strongpackage of electronics, communications, and power electronics courses that provide a goodfoundation for mechatronics specialization, to clearly signal the mechatronics option to theincoming students, the actual “mechatronics” name should be specified within the offeredcurriculum. From the MET experience over the last few years, EET faculty have come to theconclusion that there is enough interest among students for a stronger curriculum and a moreinterdisciplinary approach for mechatronics. The EET program did not have the availability of anew faculty line to

course.IntroductionAs universities strive to graduate engineering students who can make an impact on society, engineering leadership programs have become more prominent. The National Academy ofEngineering [1] as well as various engineering professional societies highlight the importance ofleadership skills in engineering [2-6]. This trend is reinforced by the newly approved ABETCriteria for the 2019-20 review cycle that includes “the ability to function effectively on a teamwhose members together provide leadership … establish goals, plans tasks, and meet objectives”[7]. With these ABET changes come questions about how to assess leadership. Because theconversation among educators on developing leadership in engineering students is growing, thisresearch seeks to

It is planned to utilize the custom VRflight simulator to assist in motivating students during their aircraft design projects, and provideadditional insight into the aircraft design process. After students get an idea of the size of theiroriginal aircraft, by estimating the power loading, wing loading, drag, lift-to-drag ratio and fuelfraction, the take-off weight can be approximated. This is followed by engine sizing andselection, wing geometry and placement, airfoil selection and tail geometry and sizing. Beforetoo long, the student will be able to “rough out” their original aircraft in X-Plane by specifyingall the necessary design parameters. This will give students the opportunity to take their
