CBIOS is taught to all engineering technology students in their junioryear. Human MotionAbstractAssessing abnormal movement resulting from poor health is essential for monitoring patients’health status and quality of life. In this paper, we describe a capstone senior design project thatuses wearable wireless sensors to measure and collect signals with information about the motionof a person in need of medical care. A triaxial body-fixed accelerometer is used to record humanmotion. Sampled data are transmitted using an IEEE 802.15.4 wireless transceiver to a datalogger and passed to a PC. The analysis of the recorded data facilitates possible characterizationof human motion. The implemented system allows for inexpensive and unobtrusive monitoringduring normal daily activities at home or in a nursing home environment.1

theparticipants’ task interpretations, strategies, monitoring activities, and judgments about theirdesign at the early and final stages of a design project. Participant responses were categorizedand tabulated according to interview questions. The results suggest that there was a change inboth task interpretation and strategy during the engineering design activity. Additionally, timeconstraints and skill level with the software affected student monitoring strategies in completingthe design task. Most participants were satisfied with their design result. Unique design and fabricationtechniques for high performance structural composites will be utilized to reduce curb weight by30-50%, when compared to conventional steel chassis design benchmarks. Self-imposedmandates adopted by the WWU R&D team include design and manufacturing sustainabilityfocus, which are reflected in all architectural, materials selection, and manufacturing processdecisions. An additional design goal targets the ability to use a range of alternative fuels by usinga modular hybrid powertrain and open source control strategies that enable utilization of regionalfeedstocks available to the purchaser. The hybrid bus project combines undergraduate Vehicle Design students withEngineering
