). MethodsInstrument and VariablesWe used the Advisor Support and Self-Efficacy for Thesis completion (ASSET) survey to gatherdata for our study. With engineering graduate programs at HSIs as a focus and SCCT as atheoretical underpinning, ASSET was designed to explore graduate students' thesis ordissertation self-efficacy and their perceptions of advisor support. The instrument is based onVarney’s Dissertation Self-Efficacy (2010) and Zhao et al.’s Advisor Behavior (2007) scales, adapted to the engineering context as the Thesis Self-Efficacy and Advisor Support constructs.Previous work, which comprised an exploratory factor analysis (EFA), provided constructvalidity evidence for the adapted scales in the instrument (Mercado Rivera et al., 2023).The survey

The students areintroduced to the Betz limit and efficiency calculations in online lectures. They learn to performcalculations and generate engineering plots using Excel. They are asked to design their own windturbine blades to generate maximum power for wind speeds less than 10 miles per hour (4.5 m/s). AnAutoCAD tutorial is provided, and the students create AutoCAD drawings of their blades that aresuitable for laser cutting. A laser cutting tutorial is provided and the students use the laser cutters tocut their blades from provided wood sheets. They assemble the blades as shown in Fig. 1 (a) and testthem in a

we are constructing the dimensions of the column. Using less material will decrease the overall cost of constructing the column(s) while maintaining a strength that conforms to the necessary specifications. While other materials, especially the A36 Steel, are comparable in price considering the material that would be needed, high-strength concrete maintains a good balance between GWP, cost, strength, and amount of material necessary to withstand the applied load.Responses, such as above, demonstrates that the student team gained an understanding of thetrade-offs in material selection by considering multiple factors (GWP, cost, and materialproperties). They use data-based reasoning to justify their choice

Students first answer the question and then select from a list of reasoningstatements that most closely align with their thought process [3]. These reasoning statementsinclude correct answers and common misconceptions, created based on student answers fromprevious Dynamics exams. This two-step style of questioning requires students to answer thequestion and identify their reasoning, which allows specific gaps in students’ understanding to beidentified [4].Adaptive Logic and Supplemental InstructionBased on the identified gaps, students are directed to the appropriate Supplemental Instruction(SI) video(s) tailored to their misconceptions.
