of professional registration.Another level of accountability in engineering are codes and standards which provide accountabilityfor a given task, especially for engineers not professionally registered. If engineers do not followthese guidelines or topics and the result is a failure that causes loss of property and/or life, the legalsystem is always ready to hold engineers accountable. In addition to the external accountability thatexists for engineers, there is also an internal, personal accountability that exists. Internalizing theprofessional code of ethics is a start. Many people have other systems by which they live as well.Religion plays a big part in this role, whether it be Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Confucianism,Christianity, Taoism

curriculum. Thecourse was designed to teach basic engineering terms, basic concepts, simple calculations toimprove problem solving skills, ethics, and computer applications. Multiple sections of the coursewere offered in the fall semester while a single section is offered in the spring semester. Institutionaldata was used to create Table 1 depicting the cumulative enrollment numbers and DFW percentagesfrom Fall 2016 until Fall 2021. A significant increase in the DFW percentage was recorded from Proceedings of the 2022 ASEE Gulf-Southwest Annual Conference Prairie View A&M University, Prairie View, TX Copyright  2022, American Society for Engineering Education

Assessment items related tocriterions and the scores for assessment of items were based on the average of the evaluations of theteam and its members on assignments and a final project report addressing these criteria, illustratingdesign methods supported by calculations using standards and codes, and preparation of drawingsshowing design results with details following industry practices. manuals became available in digital format. The digital format madeit easy for one student who had gained access to a solution manual to distribute it to others. Severalstudies have examined the effects of students’ use of solution manuals on their performance duringexams 1-7. Many instructors have ethical concerns regarding the students’ use of solution manuals, while many students do not consider the use of solution manuals as scholastic dishonesty1. Few studieshave shown that the use of solution manual has an adverse effect on students’ learning2-5. Other studieshave suggested new strategies for assigning homework problems 6,7. With the availability of solutionmanuals to students, we noticed over time fewer and fewer students stopping by during

participation in the study would haveno effect on their course grades. Furthermore, the GPA of students who opted to participate was notobtained, but students who participated had reputations of possessing a strong work ethic. Eightstudents participated, six of them of senior standing and two of junior standing. Prior to the day of thestudy, students were sent a pre-survey and based on their answers were then split into control and Proceedings of the 2022 ASEE Gulf-Southwest Annual Conference Prairie View A&M University, Prairie View, TX Copyright © 2022, American Society for Engineering Education 4experimental groups to
