I know know 20+ other 'first timers' that I can bounce ideas and questions off of.” “My favorite thing about it is the supportive environment. Starting out in a professorial job can be very stressful and you can feel isolated sometimes. IntroductionIntellectual Property is important to future engineers because they will not only be the Creators,Designers, and Developers of Intellectual Property, but also the Managers and Users ofIntellectual Property. Not only will they need to conceptualize what intellectual property is, butthey will need to become familiar with their rights in regard to intellectual property. In fact, intheir future careers, engineers may be confronted with contracts that have intellectual propertyspecific agreements. For example, a company may want to retain intellectual property rights

Whether this measure indicatesgreater eventual success on the part of the students who leave engineering earlier is one of thepotential outcomes that will be examined in future work.Table 5 gives performance indicators for students who have not yet reached the six year mark. There are no comparison statistics calculated for this group yet, but, if the differences observedturn out to be statistically significant, there may be early indication that changes in theprogramming have had different effects. Mistakes suchas these led to miscalculations of net area and capacity. The students in this course have taken a class in the beginning of their college careers to teachthem a level of drawing skills. This level of drawing includes the ability to draw generic blockshapes from different perspectives. The level of drawing required in the steel design courseincludes the ability to draw complex cross-sections of floor plans and connections with detailedcomponents like bolts and welds (again, see Figure 3 and Figure 4).After Exam 1, a sketching assignment was assigned to the students

Languagebarrier is another major obstacle for Chinese students to gain knowledge from courses taught inEnglish using traditional teaching approaches, and demonstrate their understanding in writtenEnglish. In addition, some students at SAVC lack the motivation in learning because IoT waschosen as a career path by their parents instead of themselves. Engaging these students inlearning the knowledge and skills that prepare them for the IoT industry is quite challenging.Under the constraint of faculty availability, all of the above-mentioned nine courses are deliveredin a condensed form. Indeed, taking one or possiblytwo engineering ethics courses as part of a degree program may not have a lasting impact onstudents embarking on professional careers. However, alternatives to semester-long ethicscourses may be more effective and impactful. The achievement gap begins in the lower-division math and physics courses, which areprerequisites for engineering courses. Calculus I and Calculus II yielded the highest values with averagerepetition rates of 36% and 45%, respectively. Repetition of these courses will delay students'graduation and potentially discourage first-year students from pursuing STEM careers. Figure

The program’s goal has been to provide a quality program thatmeets accreditation standards while providing the students with a skill set that allows them tosucceed in computing careers. The curriculum content for the Computer Science degree is basedon the 2001 ACM Curriculum Report. The Computer Science degree at UVU was accredited byAccreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) in 2002 and currently has morethan 1,200 students. at this university, there are two required courses for all MS students, and thenthe remaining eight courses are selected by the student’s graduate committee chair along with thestudent. This structure allows for highly customizable plans of study for students, and allows themto develop discipline specific knowledge that support their future career goals. The difficulty isthat the levels of proficiency that may be determined through course-level data is ratherproblematic to assess. For instance, a course may consist of 20 students, each of whom is in his orher first semester, second, third or final semester. While it is possible to track individual studentsseparately, that approach may require some effort on the part of faculty and may
