Ultimately, in order to secure aquality experience for as many students as possible, we will need to be mindful of the number ofclinical mentors we need to coordinate with, as well as the time each clinical mentor has for eachstudent.We define student success as the clinical mentoring team committing resources (money, time, etc.)to directly build-on the actionable problem statement developed by the student's team within sixmonths of the end of the course. students transition from high school to college, theyoften don’t have explicit knowledge and skills in these areas, which can cause them to struggle morethan is necessary. Higher education institutions have created programs to provide explicit instructionin these areas through classes in “learning to learn,” self-regulation, and self-care. Specific topics inthese classes include metacognitive strategies, time management strategies, goal setting, developinga growth mindset, and practicing self-care techniques such as mindfulness and staying sociallyconnected.Given engineering students have unique experiences and struggles within these different areas, wedecided to build our program within the College of Engineering to address their particular
; increase in contact hours withtheir NASA subject matter expert, Speaker Series added on NASA missions and opportunities, and a virtual studentshowcase broadcasted as a two-day event. Based on evaluation results, items that were missed due to the virtualevent include: opportunity to engage face-to-face with NASA experts, opportunity to experience college life, tour ofa NASA facility to experience and see first-hand research by NASA scientists, engineers, and astronauts, and theopportunity to experience long-term research with like-minded students.
