program's initial role was to provide a generalist viewpoint on engineering, particularly for those undergraduates who had an entrepreneurial bent. The idea was to provide a degree program suitable for someone who would need to know knowledge across engineering disciplines, but not to senior level in all disciplines. Although the program had some students graduating each year, it was becoming somewhat stagnant by 2007 when an effort was made to begin a rejuvenation project.
