PowerUP! created aseries of documents for this event that one describes in simple language whatengineers and technicians in that field would do and the second outlines thevarious educational paths to pursue engineering and technology careers indifferent fields. Participants found these posters/documents extremely valuableand asked to have copies to use in their work. She earned a Bioengineering Degree from the University of Iowa and a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Standford. She worked as an engineer for 14 years in industry specializing in the design of seats for comfort and support during crashes. She is currently the half-time director of the METS (Maricopa Engineering Transition Scholars) program, overseeing activities both in the Fulton School of Engineering and the Maricopa County Community College

Although the two courses were well suited for linkage in alearning community designed to provide knowledge, skills, and the peer support needed foracademic success and a technical career, many students had already attained mastery of somecourse content (computer literacy). In the final survey most of the students considered thecourses well coordinated and interconnected, and all declared that they would recommend theEDGE Program to other students.3) Students will experience academic success and student life in a college environment andbegin to accumulate college course credits towards an Associate’s degree at San AntonioCollege.Results: All but one student enrolled in the EDGE 2005 Program

Wood is the Program Coordinator of the Manufacturing program and an assistant professor in the Engineering Technologies department at Southwest TN Community College in Memphis Tennessee. Degrees include a M.S. in Manufacturing Engineering Technology and a M.A. in Technical Writing from the University of Memphis. Mr. Wood worked in the inspection and NDE field prior to joining the teaching staff at Southwest. In addition to his academic career, he maintains a regular consulting business. They are also involved in recruitment andmarketing, which involves developing promotional materials, meeting with local companies,membership in adult education consortium, and participating in education fairs at localcompanies. They also search and screen for adjunct faculty and host an orientation for newhires.
