learnersatisfaction3. Social factors such as interpersonal interaction and social integration contributed tomore than 60% of learner satisfaction4. Feeling of isolation due to lack of interaction with peersor faculty and lack of prompt feedback have been long been identified as difficulties of onlinelearning. Students’ personal factors, for example, prior knowledge of technology or the subjectmatter affected their learning online5. Considering these factors, the author of this study hasmade several changes in an upper-level engineering course offered in Fall 2020.The objective of this study is to find if a 400-level engineering course, Engineering Hydraulics, can be taught as effectively as in F2F class. The class has been taught at XXX university only inF2F

where some students do not have the internetbandwidth or equipment to do this effectively. As a result, the main method of challenging anypotential issues with academic integrity is to randomize the problems. In an in-person class, all students would be provided the same problems with the same numbersbut potentially in a different order along with randomized seating. However, for the online exam, students received the same problem but with variations to the loading locations and values. Thiswould still test students on the same objectives at the same level of difficulty but would deterstudents from trying to direct copy. As students were required to submit hand calculations, theinstructor was reviewed them for any unusual responses or signs of

test fixtures at home. In L.D. Fink’s book, the effective teaching should help student“…develop skill in thinking or problem solving” 2. This is a pedagogical approach for developingproject design courses / experiments and the curriculum in virtual/remote environments. This is an ongoing and repeatable project. The student engineering teams have been working onthis multi-year, multidisciplinary project to integrate a complex variety of technologies into anew RC aircraft design; this complexity and new approaches requires multi-year developmenttime. This project provides a better learning modality for around 55 Aerospace Engineering(ARO)/Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE)/Mechanical Engineering (ME) seniorstudents every academic year. burden on the student and allowing any studentaccess to the learning materials. This paper presents the use of online software to teach PLCs in a Mechanical Engineeringcurriculum. The software used is Automation Direct’s Do-more12 PLC Emulator Softwaredevelopment suite. It is chosen as the instructional vehicle herein in order to illustrate howstudents can learn PLC programming and implement Proportional Integral Derivative (PID)loops within simulated control system environments. The use of PID loops in industry iscommonplace and the theory behind them is well understood13. The body of the paper is outlinedas follows: first an overview of the Do-more PLC emulator is given, followed by an example ofhow a PID loop is implemented on the Do-more

technologicalstandpoints in future. To address the educational needs of the future engineers in such areas ofsignificant importance, quantum entanglement and quantum cryptography experiments, as twofundamental topics in quantum mechanics, are brought into the mechatronics course in an initiativethat is reported in this paper. The integrated quantum and mechatronics topics also providesopportunities for open discussions on exploring the interface of quantum technologies and classicalengineering systems, which can potentially push the engineering boundaries beyond classicalpossibilities by accessing and leveraging the quantum advantages. An innovative online remotedemonstration of such quantum experiments is also developed and presented to the students. Thiscourse
