returned a later Transactions article withthe same title and author (the miscellaneous paper appears to be an earlier manuscript for theTransactions article)10, and two returned no matching results whatsoever.11-12 The miscellaneouspapers without bibliographic records in Compendex came from the 1930’s, 1950’s and 1970’s,suggesting that the problem of incompleteness in ASME paper indexing is not limited to aparticular time period. The most important conclusion from this exercise is that not all ASME miscellaneoustechnical papers are indexed within Compendex.
