, What’s Next?” Thishigh impact practice (HIP) is used to help students process their experiences, gain perspective onthem, and use them as a basis for future action. The benefits to students as a whole are growth intheir ability to craft reflections and in their feelings of inclusion (as measured by the LongitudinalAssessment in Engineering Self-Efficacy (LAESE) survey instrument). Students find the programhelpful in envisioning their future development, citing conversations with faculty and peers asessential in helping them consider their career options. Students in the “hands-on” fields ofengineering technology see the benefits to reflective practices. Introducing regular reflection intotheir curricula can help their personal and professional

engineering disciplines, for a number of reasons. It has been shown as a useful recruiting tool, allowing undergraduates, who may not havethought of pursuing a graduate degree (Mraz-craig et al., 2018; Noguez & Neri, 2019). CUREprojects have also been shown to increase students’ self-efficacy, as well as other improvementsin motivation, when measured using the LCAS (Laboratory Course Assessment Survey) (Harriset al., 2021). Though these CURE projects do have improved outcomes, there are concerns that,as the projects have a limited time frame and can have limited objectives. As most undergraduatestudents are enrolled in more courses than graduate students, and as these projects are limited toa single academic term, students are not able to complete

reality (VAR) befitting to cultivate students ofunderrepresented populations’ self-efficacy in engineering technology and promote a sense of belonging. Thefundamental premise of the metaverse is to live in alternate reality with open possibilities. VAR is already onthe precipice of transforming “entire functions of industry to include sales, marketing, business operations andvarious technological innovations.” [1] The convergence of the “physical, augmented and virtual reality in ashared online space” is an ideal means to enhancing and increasing the efficacy of all who desire to enter STEMcareers, particular engineering technology. The college hopes the VARiETy initiative will not only demonstratepositive academic impact amongst the targeted
