ETD 345 Examining the Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic on S-STEM Financially Supported Students’ Change-Readiness and Self-Efficacy Sarah (Yin Yin) Tan and John L. Irwin Michigan Technological University1. IntroductionS-STEM financially supported students: ETS-IMPRESS (The Engineering Technology Scholars –IMProving REtention and Student Success) participate in the Honors College Pathway Program(HCPP), where they write reflections frequently. All reflections are written and follow a “What/SoWhat/Now What” format that instructors also describe as “Present, Analyze

Experiential Learning (EL) components in coursesat the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior levels (vertical integration). The design of theseEL components will be based on revised Kolb’s theory of EL, which include contextually richconcrete experience, critical reflective observation, contextually specific abstractconceptualization, and pragmatic active experimentation. The vertical integration of ELcomponents can supplement classroom learning with real-world problem solving, whoseoutcomes include professional communication, teamwork, self-guided learning, observation, andreflection. The PIs will develop and implement EL components in six unique courses at the CEMTprogram, including five regular lecture-based courses and one existing EL course

robot arm to pickan object based on the classification results. This exercise involves students exploring embeddedsystems, AI and computer vision, and robotic control. This lab exercise will be introduced in theupcoming offering of the ENT303 course in Fall 2022. This paper illustrates the complete labexperiment with executing guidelines and student performance evaluation metrics.ObjectivesThis paper focuses on object detection and classification using TensorFlow, Keras, and the otherknown open-source ML library framework [12]. Students can easily configure these libraries ontheir personal computers. The lab setup and lab exercise will be revised each semester based onstudents’ comments and suggestions and reflecting updates in the proposed

visualized in Figure 2.An early result of this exploration of Industry 4.0 skill area needs on the manufacturing floor wasthe fact that manufacturers have separate expectations for the engineer and the technician in thatwork environment. The cluster of skill areas for technicians, as identified in Figure 1 are additivemanufacturing, autonomous robots, cybersecurity, Industry Internet of Things, and simulation. This alphabetized but not prioritized list may catch the reader off guard. However, manufactureridentified Industry 4.0 application technician skill needs reflect on the size of the manufacturerand where that company is in the broad spectra of new advanced technology applications. Inaddition, for the over 130 small to medium manufacturers in

employers, and posting must be done cautiously and withethical consideration. Students are asked in an assignment to highlight the four ways to use socialmedia professionally: minimize their profiles, create the presence wanted, make it private andGoogle themselves. The students are asked to reflect on what their digital footprint says aboutthem and list the steps to take to change or enhance their professional profile.Papers and Industry CodesIn my higher level course, papers are assigned that address ethical practices and situations.Additionally, professional codes of ethics are studied to inform students and familiarize themwith the codes, emphasizing that industry does require and expect ethical behavior. The codesare studied and also applied

project.Timeliness: how well the proposed project reflects the current state of technology, educationalemphasis, industrial interest, or developing subject matter in the area addressed by the proposal.Quality: the proposal reflects sufficient attention to writing, organization, and project details [2].AwardsRecipients are notified via email and are announced at CIEC that winter. ETD fund disbursementconsists of half at project commencement and half after completion. Awardees are responsiblefor a final report, to be posted on the website, and a presentation at the following year’s CIEC (in2021, due to the COVID situation, CIEC was canceled, so we are presenting at the 2023conference). In addition, they are encouraged to submit a paper for publication in the

cases are any indication, capitalism serves as a breeding ground for those who aspireto great wealth. “Greed is good” preaches a ruthless Gordon Gecko in the 1987 film Wall Street[71], reflecting a world view of exploitation, cheating—whatever it takes to make heaps ofmoney and feed an individual’s self-interest. Harris and Blanck certainly, and with no apparentmoral qualms, engaged in worker exploitation, as did U.S. Steel. Our own times are marked bythe emergence of the “uber-rich,” such as Elon Musk (net worth: $264 billion) and Jeff Bezos(net worth: $152 billion) [72]. While some, such as Warren Buffet and Bill Gates, liberallycontribute to social causes, others simply take the money and run. While greed is surely associated with capitalism

voluntarily participate in the external assessment, the ethical researchprinciple of Justice was upheld. US and foreign nationals, men, and women, and participation ofvarious racial and religious traditions, illustrate the inclusive nature of the study. Thus, all hadbenefited from the SME assessment. Moreover, since the certification exams were always heldon campus at the study institution the concept of convenience was secured.2.3.7 Data management plan. From the collected data, we performed a survey for those studentswho participated in the professional society exam (external assessment). This survey was briefbut related to the two of the three categories we have devised, namely, BOK and assessmentdelivery. For the BOK category, the reflection
