A grading scheme has been developed, over several yearsof capstone courses, that assists in grading the individual student relative to the team’ssuccess on the project and the individual team member’s contributions as assessed bythe team. This process uses a variety of survey questions related to the project whereeach team member rates themselves and their peers over a 10-point scale. Stipulationsare placed on the rating to ensure that students provide a range in the assessment forthe group members. The survey scores are normalized using the z-score in an attemptto remove individual grading variances between each team member. class to familiarize students with theonline lecture format. Students were encouraged to take notes when viewing the videos, just asthey would in a traditional lecture. Learning and retention benefits were cited for listening,watching, writing, and practicing course material to encourage practiced study. Students werealso strongly encouraged to review the online example problems, which were not required forcourse credit. This paperpresents the implementation of the pilot and discusses the initial findings, challenges and lessons learned.MethodologyThe program activities were designed to emphasize self-efficacy and belonging and will be describednext. Faculty researchers developed partnerships with local organizations working with young womenwith a focus on women of color, in grades 6-12th. Based upon partner scheduling and the academiccalendar a twenty week/year program was developed.
