]. Given the critical role of the adviser in a student's academic journeyand the potential consequences of inadequate academic progress for international students, it iscrucial to recognize the unique challenges faced by international students and provide themwith appropriate support. To provide international doctoral students with positive advising experiences, it is essential forSTEM faculty to possess intercultural communication competence (ICC). In this article, weadopt Griffith et al.'s definition of ICC, which refers to an individual's ability to gather, interpret, and effectively respond to culturally diverse cues in a multicultural environment [14].Prior literature demonstrated that international students face particular challenges, such

itself more just and diverse.Additionally, the integration of social and technical aspects of engineering creates a shift towardsmaking engineering more interdisciplinary through the consideration of societal, cultural, historical, political, economic, and environmental implications of design. Engineering alonecannot solve large sociotechnical problems but can contribute towards solutions [8], [31].Similarly, the integration of social and technical aspects of engineering may lead to a shifttowards a more justice-oriented mindset of what it means to be an engineer. Namely, engineeringis not just about solving problems of efficiency for profit but is about solving problems forpeople in ways that bring about equity and improve quality of life.[1] S

In this spirit, the last tutoringsession was devoted to individual presentations of their understanding and reflection of thefour linguistic concepts and corpus techniques. It was found that every participant wascapable of applying the linguistic concepts to their own writing (see Table 4). While Vihaanand Shyla chose to apply all four linguistic

spring and didn’t have a summer camp [14]. Within the engineering sector, summer camps have shown to provide an outlet for children ofvarying age levels, racial, and ethnic backgrounds, with similar interests, to interact with one another [15].This is particularly important as studies have shown that with engineering awareness certain children groupsneed more exposure to the topic. Within those who do enter engineering, white female, African American,Latino, and Native American high school students traditionally have had little encouragement in pursuingcareers related to these subjects [17-18]. Given early 2000’s work, there has been an increase in women’srepresentation in all STEM fields, yet they remain significantly underrepresented

score corresponds to the student's firstattempt to solve the worksheet, where no educational resources are available. In other words, these results come exclusively from the student's prior knowledge. In contrast, the maximumscore may match the student's final try, i.e., when the student solves the worksheet successfullyafter studying MATH 101's material. Of course, there are cases where the students only require asingle attempt to solve the worksheet satisfactorily; in these cases, the minimum and maximumscores are equal. Finally, note that the average number of attempts is a relative measure of thetopic's difficulty; the closer to 1, the easier it was for the student to pass to the next module. With the following topic-by-topic analysis, we can
