Tal's interests lie in understanding the structure of networks and novel computing systems as well as in the theory and practice of engineering and computer science education. Tal was recognized as the 2009 Computing Research Association (CRA) Outstanding Undergraduate Award Winner. Tal's research in modeling the temporal variations of low-power wireless network links has been published internationally and was recognized by the Best Paper Award at ACM
