Thenational FGS population is more diverse than CGS, with a greater percentage having one or moreintersecting, underrepresented identities. With national, state, and institutional leaders trying toclose the “achievement gap” and meet diversity and equity outcomes, understanding and servingFGS is critical to meeting those goals.Helping FGS persist to graduation is also important to science, technology, engineering, andmath (STEM) bachelor’s degree programs.
