. In this capacity, he is responsible for all activities related to student services (academic administration, advising, career planning, women and diversity programs, etc.) and curricular issues. He is principal investigator on several NSF grants related to retention of engineering students. As a faculty member in civil engineering, he co-teaches a large introductory course in civil engineering. His research and consulting activities have focused on the safety and reliability of hydraulic structures, and he has participated as an expert in three different capacities regarding reviews of levee performance in Hurricane Katrina. He is a three-time recipient of his college’s Withrow Award for Teaching

in graduate school in engineeringor computer science at ASU, the student is supported for a maximum of four semestersby a second CIRC program funded by an NSF S-STEM grant (#0728695).Through the CIRC/METS program, transfer students in the Fulton Schools ofEngineering can apply for and receive a $4,000 scholarship per academic year. Therequirements for the scholarship include: U.S. citizenship or permanent residency, full-time student in engineering or computer science, a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, andunmet financial need according to FAFSA. Each semester six workshops are held withmultiple meeting times for each. The topics include the “Guaranteed 4.0 Plan”14,resumes, interviews, how to use computer data bases for research papers

-term goals of organizational strategic plans: This study found that employees who have higher MIL levels (meaning they feel more energy, strength, joy, and power from their working and nonworking lives and environments) might be more open and ready for changes the organization may require of them. assessments of the targeted course outcomes showed a positive changein the students' knowledge, attitudes and habits, as related to professional development. Some ofthe strongest student-perceived changes over the course duration were focused around graduateprogram planning, the job search process, work-life balance, conflict resolution, and negotiation.Tangible outcomes included curriculum vitae, Gantt chart for progression through the graduateprogram, academic application packet materials, and outreach activities targeted to prospectiveand first-semester graduate students. , workshops for academic administrators andfaculty on climate issues, and the development of male faculty as advocates and allies. Within allthree of these components there are specific, funded incentives to support change efforts. the impact of contextual support, and the future plans of this ongoingstudy of pathways to retention among undergraduate women in engineering.BackgroundThe literatures from the fields of women in engineering and self-efficacy have established theimportance of efficacy in the persistence and satisfaction of young women pursuing engineeringcareers. Women continue to be underrepresented in engineering, earning only 19.3% ofbachelor’s degrees in engineering in 20071 (having peaked at 20.6% in 20002) and holding only11% of engineering positions.3 Although they are as academically prepared and as academicallysuccessful as men, women lag behind men in academic satisfaction, academy self-efficacy, andself-esteem.4 Traditional assumptions about career
