missions are much more focused on providing educational opportunities tolocal students who wish to pursue an education beyond high school. With a few exceptions, community college faculty seek external funding to develop new academic programs, improvecurricula and teaching, or implement student-centered professional development programs, oftenin partnerships with four-year institutions. Community college faculty's two main responsibilitiesare teaching and advising students. In this context, mentoring takes shape (Hensel, 2021). Forinstance, mentoring may occur in the classroom, the laboratory, and the office. In theirclassrooms, faculty uncover the hidden curriculum, introduce academic language, and promotethe notion of students becoming scholars

competitive STEM workforce. The second subcategory recognizes HBCU DDEPs as a vital pathway. In a study focusing on thesuccess of Black males at PWIs, the author highlights DDEPs as one mechanism contributing tothe positive school experience for Black students (Hardnett, 2023). The AUC, aconsortium-based DDEP, asserts that students who complete the program graduate with twodegrees from both institutions (Jackson, 2007). Regarding Morehouse students' opportunities toearn an engineering degree through the DDEP, Joseph (2023) views it as a means to reform andinnovatively teach engineering, aiming to revolutionize HBCU to R1 graduate pathways. Dr.Rockward Micro Optics Research and Engineering Laboratory at Morehouse College haspioneered a pathway for

URMs.Research has shown that post-baccalaureate programs provide participants knowledge on thegraduate school and employment application process and keys to success in STEM careers orgraduate studies [7].The project's goal was to provide an enriching experience to students unable to participate inresearch due to the restrictions imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic or academic schedules. This just-in-time experiential educational opportunity aimed to provide post-baccalaureates to:(1) acquire another professional credential to make them more marketable in the STEMworkforce, (2) gain laboratory knowledge should they decide to pursue an advanced certificate ordegree as part of their long-term goals, and (3) attend professional development workshops

, Vancouver Dr. Dave Kim is Professor and Mechanical Engineering Program Coordinator in the School of Engineering and Computer Science at Washington State University Vancouver. His teaching and research have been in the areas of engineering materials, fracture mechanics, and manufacturing processes. In particular, he has been very active in pedagogical research in the area of writing pedagogy in engineering laboratory courses. Dr. Kim and his collaborators attracted close to $1M in research grants to study writing transfer of engineering undergraduates. For technical research, he has a long-standing involvement in research concerned with the manufacturing of advanced composite materials (CFRP/titanium stack, GFRP

being teaching focused.[8]The University of North Texas metrics of performance over the 2003-2023 period are reflectiveof growing science and engineering value in urban areas. A new college of engineering wascreated in 2013 with Materials Science, Computer Science and Engineering Technology formingthe founding departments. New non-doctoral granting departments of Mechanical and EnergyEngineering and Electrical Engineering were subsequently created with provision of doctoralgranting across the majors enabled by 2015. In 2017 a new department of biomedicalengineering was added. The University attained the highly research active doctoral degree publicuniversity R1 status in 2015 and maintained it in 2018 and 2022. While many R1 schools willhave a
