Employer and STEM Core Student Interactions Because STEM and technology employers traditionally recruit engineering internsexclusively from four-year colleges, they are used to meeting interns in-person for the first timeon their first day. As UW’s National Survey of College Internships reports (Joy, 2022), theaverage distance from a student’s home to an in-person site for internship was 331 miles.
