of excellence in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) requiresstudents’ sustained enthusiasm and commitment. However, the high rate of dropouts andtransitions to other majors implies that students struggle with maintaining motivation in STEMdisciplines. Indeed, longitudinal research suggests that motivation tends to decline over time inSTEM fields, particularly in introductory courses that serve as gateways to graduation. Thisdecline in motivation can, in turn, result in decreased academic performance and hinderedprogress toward degree attainment [1]-[2].
