Wind Power for Developing Nations; Sustainability Meets Junkyard WarsJ. Ledlie Klosky and Gunnar Tamm, West Point, The United States Military Academy Inspiring students to truly take charge and execute ill-defined, real-world capstone projects is a significant challenge. To meet this challenge, it is imperative that the project topic be carefully chosen, as the topic is the genesis of the student’s efforts. This paper asserts that successful project topics should contain three key components: the project must be rigorous but within the student team’s capabilities, the students must feel that the project matters, and the topic must engage the interest of the project mentors

upon principal machine designtopics, are employed to develop the formative skills needed in the senior design Capstone course. These problems are in addition to textbook (closed-ended) solutions and typically requireadditional research towards solution. A detailed design report is required and will include alogical analysis, solution, design discussion and summary. The design report componentsinclude: Design Report • Table of Contents • Introduction • Technical Body (sketches, figures, tables, clear statement of design approach, reference all equations). • Results • Conclusions and recommendations • Appendix • ReferencesThe design projects were prepared either on an

. During the project: a lot was learned about composite technology, many opportunities forinnovation were noticed, and questions were left unanswered. An independent study was thelogical next step for this author. This paper is being written as a capstone to the independentstudy. But the work will continue.Epoxy Additive: Epoxidized Soybean Oil The additive discussed in this paper is epoxidized soybean oil (ESO). This additive iscurrently used as a plasticizer for plastic resins like PVC. ESO has yet to be utilized in manyviable applications such as musical instrument construction. When added to epoxy it affectsvarious mechanical properties, which include the following: increased vibration-damping,increased impact strength, decreased
