University, Marcellus Shale drilling haslead to 44,000 jobs in the Pittsburgh region and has generated about $3.9 billion dollars ineconomic activity in 2009 [2]. The increased emphasis in energy has lead to substantialindustry activity and an emphasis on green jobs in the region. According to the 2010Milken Institute Best-Performing Cities Index, which ranks U.S. metropolitan areas by howwell they are creating and sustaining jobs and economic growth, Pittsburgh was ranked32nd in 2010, up 77 spots from 2009 [3].
