Educational research has also shownthat most people learn 10% of what they read, 20% of what they hear, 30% of what they see,50% of what they see and hear, 70% of what they discuss with others, 80% of what they use anddo in real life, and 95% of what they teach someone else (peer-instruction). Thus, an obviousavenue toward

educationalmeasurement and multiple-choice exam writing books by Bloom7, Gronlund10, Haladyna11,Hambleton12, McDonald14, Reynolds27, and Linn28. Only these texts presented organizedchecklists. A majority of other texts contain long lists of guidelines followed by additionalreading. These lengthy readings are impractical due to instructor time constraints. Checklistsprovide a direct means to evaluate quiz quality in a timely manner. Based on the literaturereview carried out by the authors, this is the first checklist that has been used in an engineeringeducation environment.Multiple-Choice Quiz Checklist FormThe Multiple-Choice Quiz Question Checklist Form developed in this work is shown in Figure1. Most weeks students are expectedto do a preparatory assignment prior to coming to the class period. The next six to seven weeks are focused on engineering practice and integration of research andengineering practice. The topics presented during this period include: • Research with Industry and the

the year progressed. The process of group work that the teams of students were required to follow was a slight variantof the basic seven-step process used for years in medical education11. In each of the threecourses the process was applied slightly differently, but in all cases the essential elements ofbrainstorming, forming hypotheses, determining learning needs and assigning associated tasks toindividual team members in team meetings, performing self-study and assigned tasks betweenmeetings, and reporting back (a form of peer instruction) on the results of assigned tasks atsubsequent meetings were always present.Proceedings of the 2010 Midwest Section Conference of the American Society for Engineering Education

findings, 10 respondents, or 91 percent, reported that they were “likely”or “very likely” to mention the Innovations course during a job interview or with colleagues (seeTable 2). Several respondents chose to write additional responses related to the questions in aprovided text box labeled “please explain.”In response to Question 4, many participants highlighted aspects of the program that they wouldor have mentioned to a potential employer or a colleague. Consider the following written responses to Question 4: “I am likely to mention the Innovations course in a job interview because it was a very unique experience. I think potential employers will appreciate my experience in working with interdisciplinary

A review was conducted of peer institutions withsimilar technical sales engineering programs included the University of Florida, and Penn StateErie - The Behrend College. Keywords: technical sales, sales engineering, industry collaborationDescription of the InnovationThe Iowa State University College of Engineering (COE) received a corporate gift from Tranecorp. to establish an engineering sales program within the college. The original gift proposalinitiated a review of sales and marketing positions for engineers, sales engineering programs atother universities, and a literature and industry review of sales engineering curriculum. Theseactivities were performed by a committee established
