The AeA was responding to an internal report generatedby a task force from its state Council which advised that “state colleges and universities mustincrease capacity and improve access for would-be students” and that “the legislature shouldfocus on funding new capacity in higher education.” The only State university on the west sideof the state offering an EE degree received state funding to increase capacity by 20%, but theneed for more qualified graduating engineers remained unmet. The AeA had identified NSCC asa well suited community college partner for EWU, as its laboratories had been recentlyrenovated to include state-of-the-art equipment for the pre-engineering and other technology-related programs.
