In addition to the chair’s mentoring, there is much peer mentoring and learning that takes place at these meetings. The chair also meets with groups that are formally defined or informally emerge periodically throughout the year. These groups may be focused with a desire to try something new in the curriculum, in our laboratory facilities or be focused on a research proposal/initiative. The chair’s role might be to help with brainstorming creative ideas, help to surmount roadblocks, make connections in or outside of the department
