]. In this context, engineering students are expected tocontribute to an interdisciplinary approach to engineering education which enables real-worldproblem solving, decision making, and commitment towards learning [1].In their research, the authors [2] considered curriculum development as fundamental forengineering education and must align with the real-world goals. An important pillar for buildingan engineering education curriculum is the implementation of technologically advanced labs thatalign with industry practices and standards. Engineering concepts such as product developmentand supply chain management demand learning by experience and foster an environment ofintrinsic knowledge development for a task [3]. A major framework that defines

andprofessional growth.Evidence from Engineering Design Graphics Courses Engineering graphic courses offer early exposure to critical skills that contribute tolong-term success in engineering and technology by supporting student spatial visualizationdevelopment in addition to hands-on experience with engineering-related tools [2]. AnNSF-funded study on active learning in Engineering Design Graphics highlights the positiveimpact of incorporating a supplemental curriculum with an environment that utilizes elements ofstudent-centered learning. A curriculum focused on real-world applications saw improvements instudent engagement, self-efficacy, mental rotation skills, and academic performance [9]. Thesefindings underscore the value of intentional

Over the years, he has developed a passion for Engineering Education Research and for creating an educational model that meet the demands of Cal State LA students while leveraging their assets. Recently, he has worked with a group of faculty on a National Science Foundation-funded integrated curriculum for sophomores, a service learning summer bridge program for rising sophomores, and the First Year Experience @ ECST, which focuses on supporting students throughout their first year at the college. Currently he leads a team of faculty working on the NSF-funded Eco-STEM project that focuses on Transforming STEM Education

Geometric dimensioning is taught fordocumentation purposes, tolerancing concept is taught using actual machine parts by showingexamples with specific machining concepts. An interactive self-learning tool for manufacturingdimensioning is developed to teach dimensioning in the context of machining for freshman levelstudents [3]. The self-learning tool developed in this work includes videos of machining toexplain the manufacturing dimensioning. Southwest Texas State University developed anexperiment to allow students to apply concepts of GD&T learned in lecture. The study showedthat their approach had a great impact on students’ learning process and retention of the concepts[4]. When a model building technique was integrated into a Theory of
