of Science in Industrial Technology(BSIT) degree program significantly reduced the learning curve in creating the BSIE 2+2 onlineoffering. Previously establishing the BSIT degree online trained the faculty in online teaching.While INEN 4315 Industrial Management is the only required course that is shared coursebetween the BSIT and BSIE programs, some undergraduate electives including Supply ChainManagement, Six Sigma, Lean and Engineering Management are offered online to support bothprograms. a method of teaching that integrates community service into an academiccourse through applied learning to enrich the educational experience of students and meet theneeds of the community. In this paper, we describe the integration of service-learning into anundergraduate industrial engineering course.Over the past three years, students in the course have worked with four community partners tocomplete service-learning projects. ABET, theAccreditation Board of Engineering and Technology, has recommended this pedagogicalapproach as a method because focusing students on real-world problems can increase theirmotivation. 4 By using the live case study approach in this class, the traditional student group,expanded to include the mentor, can work together to synthesize their understanding of theapplication, through the question and answer process. During her studies in the United States she worked a research assistant at the Center for Innovation on Healthcare Logistics CIHL, her work for CIHL focused on assessing the impact of GS1 standards adoption in the healthcare supply chain. Her research interests are related to the modeling of technology adoption and in particular HIT.
