We as instructors need to be mindful of that fact.Engineers tend to have a lower percentage of their college costs paid with borrowing than peoplewith other majors, and they are better positioned to pay off their loans. Even so, manyengineering students and recent graduates can be described by the following statistics. Studentloan debt is now over $1 trillion, and is the second largest form of consumer debt

Textbook author, William Sullivan, in his 2008 papersaid, “Developing examples and exercises that are interesting, engaging, and provide context is achallenging problem for courses with students enrolled from a variety of majors. Yet, we knowthat without proper context to their discipline, students will not find relevance or understand whythey should care to learn engineering
