. Material science course is a highly interdisciplinarycourse, which is related to design, mechanics analysis, testing, etc. PBL can help students engagein the class and understand the course content.For the term project in this paper, an aircraft for the SAE Aero Design Competition was used asa hook to attract students’ attention. Students were required to select materials with certaindimensions for five major components of the airframe, including rib, body spar, engine mount,payload box, and wing spar. Each component has different loading conditions and designrequirements which were described in each assignment.
