The idea behind the three exercises was to go from the “big picture” down tothe specific application. The information collected by the teams loosely formed the material inthe course syllabus (which was handed out the second lesson). Homework for this first class wasto write up their answers to these three exercises with no more than three pages. For homework,student teams were encouraged to use outside references, something that was not allowed duringthe first class. The alternateintention of not having a required textbook is to break free from the tradition of asking students to solveback of the chapter homework problems.
