Session ETD 345success. Programs that foster and strengthen relationships with firms , professional, and associationswill not only benefit the program as well as the firms and associations. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the various connections between Penn State Harrisburg’sStructural Design & Construction Engineering Technology program and their advisory board. Thispaper will also discuss the common as well as unique activities and partnership that are conductedfrom the advisory board, student organizations, national associations, financial support, andoutreach. These various activities demonstrated excellent examples of a win-win relationship, whichbenefits both the university programs and its board.Advisory BoardThe Structural

initially proposed by Denver local companies,CareerWise Colorado, Mikron, Intertech Plastics, and Andrew. With the certificate, a studentshould be able to start his or her career in mechanical or industrial engineering technicianpositions with a chance to move into quality assurance expert jobs or become lean manufacturingspecialists. Also, since all of required courses can be applied to the manufacturing concentrationof mechanical engineering technology (MET), a student can come back to MSU Denver topursue a BS degree in MET or in the Advanced Manufacturing Science (AMS) in the future. From our experience, a four-year degree driven by the industry will be a multidisciplinary degreefrom traditional academic point of view. There is usually minimal
Session ETD 545 Experimental Investigation of Pipe Heating Enhancement using Different Number of Internal Fins Maher Shehadi, Ph.D. School of Engineering Technology, Purdue Polytechnic Institute Purdue UniversityAbstractThis paper presents an experimental comparison study done as a capstone project in the Schoolof Engineering Technology at Purdue University. The project objective was to compare theeffectiveness of multiple internal fins on heating water flowing inside pipes when subjected toconstant external heat flux. The
Engineering and Technologyonly 1.8% of the total student population currently studies abroad. Why are the national numbersso low and even much lower in Engineering and Technology? This paper will explore what employers are looking for in graduates, how can study abroad helpstudents achieve success, and the benefits of studying abroad for both the employer and thestudent. The paper will look at some reasons why students might not take advantage of studyabroad programs and what can be done to change the attitudes of faculty and students on thevalue of studying abroad to increase the preparedness of students for a career in the 21st Century. Session ETD 475 Overview of Learning Cybersecurity Through Game Based Systems Tolulope Awojana and Te-Shun Chou Department of Technology Systems College of Engineering and Technology East Carolina UniversityAbstractCybersecurity awareness and skills training are very essential and challenging. Cybersecurity in itselfinvolves the defense of systems, networks and programs from digital attacks. These attacks are capableof gaining unauthorized access to computers and
Session ETD 545 Experimental and Analytical Comparison of Internally Finned Pipe with Unfinned Pipe for Heating Applications Maher Shehadi, Ph.D. School of Engineering Technology, Purdue Polytechnic Institute Purdue UniversityAbstractThis paper presents a capstone project that was done by two MET (Mechanical EngineeringTechnology) students during their senior year at Purdue Polytechnic, Kokomo. The projectobjective was to build an apparatus that would allow evaluation of pipes performance intransferring heat from an external heating source wrapped
considered nothing morethan a set of managerial theories that students should be aware of prior to entering industry. Thisis especially true in the mechanical engineering/technology discipline where many institutionsonly have one course dedicated to quality control, which is often geared toward a specificmanagement theory such as Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing. However, in the mechanicalengineering/technology discipline, there is a plethora of roles which graduates may assume inindustry, many of which require knowledge and skills in quality. It is critical to understandexactly what skills manufacturing industries are looking for in future employees. A quick searchon any job board such as CareerBuilder or Monster will indicate that employers are
Session ETD 455 Using Virtual Reality Welding to Improve Manufacturing Process Education Angie Hill Price, Mathew Kuttolamadom, Suleiman Obeidat Texas A&M UniversityAbstractVirtual reality welding systems increasingly are being used to train welders in industry. Onesuch system is being used to introduce entry level industrial distribution undergraduate studentsto welding processes in preparation for hands on real welding in labs. The same system is alsoused for upper level manufacturing and mechanical engineering technology students to extendtheir knowledge of the
Session ETD 475 Automatic Collection of Scoring Metrics in Competitive Cybersecurity Lab Environments Nicholas Hempenius, Te-Shun Chou, and Lee Toderick Department of Technology Systems College of Engineering and Technology East Carolina UniversityAbstractCybersecurity game-based learning has shown great promise and is likely to be a powerfulmeans of training security professionals in the future. In most game-based cyber securitylearning systems there are automated scoring mechanisms in place that score
Session ETD 475 An Interactive Learning System for Cyber Security Education Te-Shun Chou Department of Technology Systems College of Engineering and Technology East Carolina UniversityAbstractThis paper describes a learning system that uses virtualization technology to build a multiplayercyber-attack and defense learning system infrastructure. The infrastructure emulated a realisticnetwork that included numerous student network environments. Virtual machines wereimplemented in each student’s network
Session ETD 545 Building a Filtration and Control System for Auto-Parts Corrosion Oil Immersion System Maher Shehadi, Ph.D. School of Engineering Technology, Purdue Polytechnic Institute Purdue UniversityAbstractThe purpose of this capstone project was to design and build an immersion system that pumps arust preventative oil through a filtration system after being applied to protect automotive parts suchas camshafts. The system improves a pre-existing immersion system, used by an automotive partspackaging company, that has no

new tenure track faculty member. The first task given was to upgrade the program. The program had a generic Bachelor of Sciencein Engineering Technology with an emphasis in Building Construction Management. In settingup the new program, the author relied on what he knew and was he also knew was successful. The new program was patterned after the program on the previous campus that he had attendedand taught at. While the planning took less than a year, the bureaucracy took another four years. Finally, in the Fall of 2009, a brand new Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering andManagement Technology was now offered.
