The lab course offers six lab preparatory lectures andsix physical (hands-on) labs. The durations of the lectures and labs are 50 minutes and 110minutes, respectively. During the lab preparatory lecture session, a faculty member delivers alecture. The HET is used for many modern space applications, fromstation-keeping on small satellites to long-term travel to faraway asteroids.Electric propulsion, and specifically the HET, integrates many concepts that are fundamental in anundergraduate education such as electricity and magnetism (E&M), material properties, thermalanalysis, and laboratory experimentation. However, the HET is rarely studied below the graduatelevel.
