divided into three main sections, power generation, transmission, anddistribution. The power generation consists of a power plant that produces power from renewableor non-renewable energy sources at low to medium voltage. This voltage is then increased inorder to transmit the power from the generation site to the distribution site. At the distributionlevel, the voltage is again reduced for the consumers. Power transformer, in this case, plays avery important role to step up and step down the voltage. There have been many advancementsin the conventional transformer, mainly magnetic coils, materials, cooling system, manufacturingprocess etc., but the advancements of the transformer structure and functions are first proposed in[1] where power

inverter, which converts the direct current into alternating current for the motor driving thewheels [1-3].Cars consume much of the oil that is used all over the world. The major source of air pollutioncomes from vehicular emissions. Therefore, cars and truck fleets have been considered and carrymajor responsibility for the environmental issues, faced at least at urban level. The constantlyincreased total amount of vehicles worldwide corresponds to increased energy consumption andenormous emissions, both during their production and use phases. To overcome this problem, carmanufacturers have designed and developed several types of environmentally friendly vehicles, mainly based on electric motors. The types of these vehicles are battery powered

There are growing recognition of theneeds to improve, restructure and reform electrical energy and power engineering curricula. Theissues surrounding this theme are receiving significant interests form faculty, industryprofessionals and often administration. Electrical energy professionals are required to havesignificant scientific capabilities, deep interdisciplinary understandings, and soft skills, e.g. self-learning abilities, communication or interpersonal competence. However, how and which are thebest approaches to better educate the next

of the engineering curriculum. Engineering learningmethods and technology are constantly evolving [1] but the industry is still using traditionalmethods such as MS Office due to its widespread use, easiness, and low cost [2], [3], [4].Therefore, in energy-related courses, an educational tool based on applications such as MS Excelis useful in the transitional period between pen and paper and more advanced and costly softwareapplications. Moreover, accessible applications can be used to enhance educational goals like theassessment of the energy consumption of these energy-efficient technologies. To address the use of accessible applications in the learning of energy-efficient technologies, thispaper describes a Combined Heat and Power (CHP

In response to this demand, the mechanical engineering department at Cal Poly has created an Energy Concentration to allowstudents to focus on energy production, transformation and transport [1]. The concentrationincludes a wide variety of courses related to the energy field so students can acquire a broadexpertise. In evaluating our courses, along with courses offered by other departments, werealized that they tend to focus on the discipline related to the department providing the courseand that the multidisciplinary aspect of the energy industry is often lost. These courses, beingfocused on one discipline, also tend to limit the possibilities for exploring open ended questions. In

Energy Engineering EducationAbstractThe Question Formulation Technique (QFT), a powerful yet simple teaching strategy recentlyfeatured in an ASEE online webinar, teaches students how to formulate, work with, improve, anduse their own questions. As a result, students become more confident researchers and bettervalue the role of question formulation in the learning process [1]. While the QFT has beenwidely used in other educational settings, its adoption in higher education has recently beenaccelerated in-part because of a National Science Foundation research study. In this work wedemonstrate two unique, innovative ways to integrate the QFT as a teaching strategy forrenewable energy engineering students. First, we will make visible how the QFT was

The datashow that systems located far apart exhibit lower correlation values than systems located closetogether. Lower correlation values are beneficial for electric grid integration because theaggregation of multiple systems with low correlation values will result in a combined systempower output with lower variability.Introduction With the rapid reduction in prices that the solar industry has seen in the past decade, solarenergy has grown dramatically [1].
