milestone to advanceor re-direct their career paths.Mostly senior/graduate-level qualified faculty accomplish program facilitation and the teachingof Ph.D. coursework. Consortium Ph.D. faculty and administration often find the maintenanceof the program costly and an unrewarding burden. The program is investigating revising itscurriculum. Topical coursework concerning Technology Leadership, Management of TechnicalExperts, Production Processes and Control, Fundamentals of Technical Finance, ProjectManagement, Technology Marketing, and Strategic Management of Technology is underconsideration for inclusion in the curriculum. Finally, the consortium-based Ph.D. in TechnologyManagement has been compared with four other Ph.D. in Technology Management

of future STEM generations.IntroductionThe changing landscape of academia presents challenge in ensuring graduate trainees areproficient in the development of professional skills outside of the research environment [1]. Thisincludes capacity for knowledge translation of research outcomes to a non-expert audience, curriculum development, and effective project management [2]. Consequently, in preparingfuture faculty to assume academic roles and responsibilities successfully, post-secondaryinstitutions have shifted greater focus to providing teaching development programs for traineeprofessional development [3]. This is particularly important given the competitive nature ofsecuring an academic position. With increasing diversity of academic

courseenrollment is usually around 25 students. While most students are PhD students in chemicalengineering, there are sometimes a small number of MS or PhD students from allied disciplines inthe course. Since 2012, the course has included modules on course design, teaching methods, assessment of student learning, evaluation of teaching effectiveness, ABET accreditation, facilitating groupwork, and preventing and reporting academic integrity violations. In early 2019, the course instructor was awarded an Instructional Improvement Grant through theUC Berkeley Center for Teaching and Learning. The instructional improvement project, titled,“Inclusive Teaching and Active Learning Upgrades to Chemical Engineering Pedagogy Course,”centered on general updates to

This paper discusses the development of thiscourse, which is based in part on curriculum developed as part of an ongoing training grant fromthe National Science Foundation. Eighteen graduate students from Engineering and other STEMdisciplines completed the course in Spring 2019, and we present data gathered from theseparticipants along with lessons learned and suggestions for institutions interested in adaptingthese open-source curriculum materials for their own use.IntroductionGraduate students in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) gain a wealth ofdisciplinary knowledge as

experiences that caused them to see themselves as differentiated from the broader group ofresearch engineers. This within-group differentiation appears to be grounded in fairly routine experiencesas a member of an under-represented group in a STEM field. Ironically, despite the clear disempoweringimpact that these experiences can have, there is also some evidence that they may promote thedevelopment of alternative value structures and feelings of purpose related to STEM fields for membersof underrepresented groups. 15ReferencesAlexander, C.
