thinking skills of participants. We havegathered preliminary results based on a pre-post self-assessment of the information literacycourse (Course 1) and the writing course (Course 2). Students provided self-assessment of CTskills at the beginning of the course (pre-course assessment), and at the end of the course (post-course assessment). Students also provided a retrospective pre-test score, where they were askedto self-assess CT skills by reflecting back on their level of skill prior to taking the course.Students in Course 2 provided self-assessment of CT skills at the end of the course through aretrospective pre-test and a post-test. Matched sample T-tests were conducted to determinewhether there was a difference in students’ post-test skill

Given the high attrition rates in graduate education, the retreat was also designed tofoster retention by integrating attributes of the Workforce Sustainability model.The retreat was framed around four objectives: (1) build community, (2) communicate groupnorms and expectations, (3) develop individual strategic plans, (4) and introduce research skills.The retreat encouraged individual and collective reflection on goals, deliverables, andexpectations. These students are pursuing a range of degrees,including an increasing number of BME undergraduate students, given recent increases inprogram size and mentorship strategies. While the engagement of doctoral trainees is notsurprising given focus on professional skill development for future academic pursuits, we areconsistently surprised by the number of Master’s trainees involved in the program. pursuing the same type of degree… I feel like they couldn't understand what it was I had to bring with me emotionally every day. That was a really discouraging time.Witnessing unsupportive interactions experienced by other students also impacted participants’perceptions of support. For example, Erin reported that other female colleagues’ experiencescaused her to lose trust in her program and contributed to an unsupportive climate.
