-person senior-exit debriefing session conducted by the BME program director.Two student cohorts, one on the old track and one on the new track, were assessed uponcompletion of their respective design sequences, and the results were compared between the twogroups using the Mann Whitney U-test for statistical significance (p<0.005). Consistency inresponses among the three instruments was sought as an indication of a valid observation.In May 2018, 42 seniors completed the old sequence and 27 of them participated in theassessment. role of human-centered design in design for manufacturabilityin engineering.The Context of the Study The study took place in an undergraduate engineering course that introduced 190 studentsto Design for Manufacturability tools and methodologies. In Fall 2019, there were 15 laboratorysections of this course. Each section had 12 to 15 students and was facilitated by two graduateteaching assistants. TAs first received a one-hour training session on human-centered designfrom a Senior Design Strategist at the Design Center, and a one-hour training session onstorytelling techniques from an industrial enterprise and systems engineer. justice, it isimportant to analyze how pervasive dominant discourses and the Discourse in engineering maycollide with these efforts.MethodsAs one of our program’s goals is to train engineering students to have a critical awareness oftheir personal attitudes, behaviors, and values, we conducted an in-class activity using “valuecards” for students to reflect on their personal values. Our goal is to help students think early anddeeply about how the ways they may want to live as a person may differ from how they areleading their lives as engineers. In this paper, we discuss 71 individual student responsescollected from this activity during the Spring and Fall 2019 semesters. Each student wasprovided a deck of 83 cards with values on them [29].
