Copyright ã 2020, American Society for Engineering Education 2Hardening can also refer to practices that make the original source code of an application moredifficult to understand. This is generally defined as code obfuscation. The practice of codeobfuscation in modern software engineering dates back to the 1980’s, with small competitions heldto transform simple C code into confusing, abstract puzzles difficult for humans to parse andunderstand5.Since the 1980’s, literature on code-level obfuscation has been consistent but generally sparse. Thisfield of research is relatively small, with no more than three or four papers published each year sincethe early 1990’s. With the growth of cloud

Environmental Engineering Undergraduate Programs by NumberA query of ABET accredited civil and environmental engineering undergraduate programs as of2019 was conducted. It shows that there are at least 252 accredited civil engineering programsand 74 accredited environmental engineering programs in the USA. Many civil engineeringprograms have been continuously accredited since 1936 (especially for traditional land-grantinstitutions and older private universities) when ABET began accreditation for engineeringprograms. The oldest accredited environmental engineering program dates to 1966 at RensselaerPolytechnic Institute in New York. The majority of accredited environmental engineeringprograms have occurred since the 1990’s, 68 of the 74 universities (94

executable and choosing which tools to use. The next phase entailed identifyinghow the executable functioned and how to isolate malicious segments of code. Finally, studentsimplemented and tested their own additional modifications. Most students do not have previous experience with reverse engineering binary executables,so the first step is an exploration of the different tools available for reverse engineering software.A preliminary search reveals both IDA (particularly IDA Pro) and BinaryNinja as the most usedplatforms. Free demo versions are available for both softwares, and these are the ones most usedby students. Once a platform(s) is chosen, students must explore what settings and views aremost helpful for analysis, and how to switch and

Here is a brief summaryof each. One instructor was retired and had been teaching one class per semester. All exam problems wereposted to Chegg by students.
