Sustainability Programsand Curricula at the Undergraduate and Graduate Levels" [1] and our independent literaturereview, in the US, there appear to be no undergraduate engineering degree programs that arebroadly oriented around sustainability in the sense of the three pillars commonly referred to as the3P's (People, Planet, Prosperity) or the 3E's (Equity, Environment, and Economics).[2][3]Further, the local conditions in Puerto Rico - a multi-hazard risk region with vulnerablepopulations and infrastructure embedded in a struggling economy - have inspired new urgency andresolve to respond to our common challenges that are at once local and global. The availablenatural resources, combined with the tangible entrepreneurial spirit of our current generation

neces-sitates a strategic reevaluation of supply chain management. It requires countries to adapt theireducational systems and workforce strategies to cater to the demands of these domestic man-ufacturing initiatives in the next three to five years. These strategies will ensure a robust andresilient semiconductor industry capable of withstanding future crises [19][22].Governments have recognized to revitalize and strengthen their domestic manufacturing initia-tives focusing on enhancing supply chain resilience, technological leadership, job creation, andworkforce development. In response to these objectives, the government introduced the CHIPSAct on August 9, 2022 [21][31][24].Over time, governments have initiated various funding programs to

, University of Connecticut Davis Chacon Hurtado, Ph.D., is an assistant research professor at UConn. He co-directs the Engineering for Human Rights Initiative, which is a collaboration between UConn’s Office of the Vice Provost for Research, the School of Engineering, and the Human Rights Institute, to promote and advance interdisci- plinary research in engineering with a clear focus on societal outcomes. Davis is working with a number of faculty on campus to develop research and curriculum at the intersection of human rights and engi- neering, such as the one discussed herein. Davis completed his Ph.D. in Transportation and Infrastructure Systems at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, in 2018. His research

learner-centered multidisciplinary engineering pedagogy which centers onthe key question: how do we motivate engineering students of different backgrounds from aneuro-inspired perspective?IntroductionIn today’s society, the majority of encountered challenges are complex, open-ended, and hard toeffectively categorize into any single particular discipline [1], which requires cross-fieldcollaborations. To effectively facilitate both multi- and intra-/trans disciplinary collaboration, engineers need to access and understand the grounded concepts from other fields to tacklecomplex challenges. For instance, construction engineers are now facing the challenge ofhighway, railroad, and infrastructure design in response to climate change risks. As such

understanding Earth's systems, including chemical processes and ecological dynamics, and the need to mitigate damaging behaviors to foster resilience and adaptation. (K)(2) Interdisciplinary Relevance: Many students emphasized the interdisciplinary nature of sustainability, highlighting its applicability across various academic disciplines and facets of human life. They recognized sustainability as a flexible framework that can be integrated into diverse fields, including science, technology, economics, and sociology. Students perceived sustainability as essential for environmental conservation and a tool for addressing global crises and promoting human development and well-being. (K)(3) Long-Term Vision and Action: Sustainability is
