increased from 19 to 26%. This resultmatched the experience of others who have observed that POGIL helps students who havetypically struggled to master content while not decreasing the number of students who achievehigh grades [8], [9]. In summary, through the use of POGIL-like activities about half thestudents who previously might have received a D or an F were getting C’s, and about 10% of thestudents who would have previously been expected to get a B were getting A’s.It should be noted that not all classes saw this exact trend. Figure 2 shows the grade distributionfrom three sessions of a Material Science I course taught by the author. The first session, in Fall2019, used traditional lectures, while the next two sessions used POGIL activities

due to its flexibility and convenience. However, a significant challenge facedby these students was difficulty with self-regulation.in their learning process, maintaining focus, and avoiding distractions online. These findings highlight the complex experiences of low-incometransfer engineering students in online learning settings during the COVID-19 pandemic, illustrating the importance of acknowledging both the advantages and challenges of onlineeducational formats [15].The transition to online learning also impacted the nature of engineering education, whichtraditionally relies heavily on hands-on experiences and master-apprentice relationships. Thisabrupt shift removed critical elements of practical learning, potentially leaving graduates

2018, the nstitute was elevated in status and renamed the School ofEngineering and Technology (SET). Yet, the new status did not seem complete withouttraditional technical programs such as mechanical and civil engineering. Furthermore, UWT’sapproved campus master plan included a new academic building to be added to the campusfootprint near 2020 which would facilitate expansion of its growing business school and newdegree programs in several engineering disciplines including mechanical, industrial and civil(none of which existed at that time). Therefore, before embarking on a request for authorizationand funding for the new building and programs, consultants were brought in to help prioritizewhich programs should be the first priority. He will definitely get tenured and he seems comfortable in front of the class.• I visited the protégé’s classroom first. It was nice to see his energy, and his strong desire to do the best in classroom presentation and to expand his students' knowledge in the class subject matter. He seemed to be quite a master of the subject, but I outlined several items that could increase the effectiveness of his teaching method. The protégé visited my classroom as well, and he indicated to me afterwards that he took a lot of pointers on good
