The students come in to class and arrange themselvesaround a large common table in pairs according to their character that is part of the “adventuringparty”, i.e. two students play the paladin, two for the rogue, two for the barbarian, and so on forthe wizard, sorcerer, druid, and cleric. The students have previously developed a name, back-story, and alignment (good – neutral and lawful – chaotic, e.g. the paladin is lawful good and thewizard is chaotic good).
