A research project is currently underway to develop a Generic Encapsulated FuzzyAutomaton Software Agent for Object Oriented Control Systems. A set of three infrared (IR) emitter and detector pairs on their robots (as seen inFigure 1) were used to generate analog voltages proportional to the distance between the robotand an obstacle. The cadets programmed the 68HC12 to interpret these incoming voltages todetermine whether a mobile robot was approaching a wall in front or on one of its sides.The HC12 built in more versatility in the ATD conversion subsystem.
