It is clear thatemployers recognize those benefits: a recent survey by the National Association of Colleges andEmployers shows a projected 22.6% increase in interns hired in 2022, by far the highest increasein at least a decade [8].Our work focuses on experiential learning in cybersecurity, a field that is experiencing rapidexpansion in the labor market and shortages of qualified professionals. Between 2013 and 2021,the number of open cybersecurity positions worldwide increased from 1 million to 3.5 million[9]. This demand for professionals is not being met: in the U.S. it is estimated that there are onlyenough qualified applicants to fill 68% of the

classroom. A literature review of experientiallearning found that most experiential learning research centers on in-class programs and coursesand has assessed a range of skills including technical, professional, and personal outcomes(Jamison et al., 2022). However, curriculum change takes time. Engineering curricula are alreadyextensive and time-consuming, so adjusting or adding more courses is not always possible. Therefore, out-of-classroom experiences have emerged as another way to develop the skillsnecessary to create engineering professionals. Many out-of-class activities have been shown to give students the opportunity to learnprofessional skills including service-learning, internships, co-operative education, engineeringsocieties, and design

PlansIntroductionIn 2022, the Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act (IIJA) and the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA)were signed into law. These Acts are intended to promote investments in domestic energyindustries. The US Executive branch established multiple grant funding mechanisms to distributeinvestments. Recognizing that IIJA and IRA investments will require significant workforcedevelopment and that investments must benefit disadvantaged communities, the fundingopportunity announcements for these grants include requirements to achieve these ends.U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) specifies that applicants must include Community BenefitsPlans (CBPs) within their proposals. We plan to examine theeffects that team-based projects have on engineering students' professional identities and careeraspirations while distinguishing how the context of these teaming experiences impacts theconstructs of interest. Although there is existing research linking cooperative educationexperiences with shifts in identity and career aspirations (Linn et al., 2004; Arthur et al., 2022),there is a notable gap in understanding the relationship between workplace teaming experiencesand these shifts
