While these provide the students with a procedural introduction to PLCs,it is the authors’ belief that the current equipment do not allow for conceptual understanding orreal world experience with PLCs. The focus of the present paper is on the steps taken to develop

The team also expanded ourcontrol trials database where the device batteries were loaded with comparable electrical demandand energy from its DC drive motors using solely resistive lamps (as shown in Fig. 1). Thissuggestion was offered by colleagues at Dresden University during a presentation of the resultsat Aerospace Corporation in California [view Ref. 7 Youtube presentation]. These controlsenabled us to have more accurate statistics and to reinforce a solid understanding of batteriesdischarge behavior in a control (or more normal) setting. The list below (in Table 1) is a subsetof all the challenges identified but

to group. Examples of projects from past semesters are; designing and testing aRanke-Hilsch vortex tube, PID controller for the Propulsion Lab compressed air control valve, and the temperature distribution in a tropical fish tank from a heated pump. These projects wereall planned and executed by students meeting all four of the learning objectives.ConclusionsThis course combined with the first semester measurement and instrumentation course provide astrong foundation of experimental engineering for Mechanical and Aerospace Engineeringstudents. Student feedback consistently cites the hands-on, independent and open ended nature ofthe course and lab activities as some of the most useful in the curriculum. Students have alsocommented that taking

accumulate, inducing a voltage difference. By utilizing thephenomena of piezoelectricity, piezoelectric materials are commonly implemented in micro andnano actuators and sensors. Piezoelectric materials, in particular lead zirconate titanate ceramics, are used in applications that require control of displacement within a small range of motion withhigh precision and high resolution. Therefore, the piezoelectric materials are commonly used inmicro-positioning systems such as in Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) [1]. They are used innumerous fields such as biomedical, automotive, aerospace and optical engineering [2].Piezoelectric materials are used as flexible structures to replace the bulky classic mechanical, thusoccupying less space in the micro

program.Introduction:Through grants funded by the US Army and Robert Noyce grant funded by the NSF, a course wasdeveloped and implemented to provide STEM activities that promote the interest of High Schoolstudents to pursue STEM education in college. The course developed was five weeks given to HighSchool students during their summer break. We used hands-on Robotic activities to motivate thestudents to further their knowledge and interest of STEM disciplines. Robotics is an interdisciplinaryfield that combines a number of disciplines in STEM education. Aerospace activities also provide aninteresting juxtaposition of many STEM fields. Programming flying robots or drones were chosen as amajor activity during the course [1, 2]. Quad rotor Drones are used today in all
