: whatperceptions and attitudes related to AI usage contribute to PSTs‘ consideration of it as aneducational tool? Implications are provided in the ensuing discussion.Qualitative FindingsFirst, we analyzed the 26 empirical studies to better understand PSTs’ perceptions of AIintegration into STEM education. This qualitative analysis focused on identifying PSTs’perceptions, experiences, and challenges in considering adopting and implementing AI withinSTEM lesson plans. developed and implemented in 2022 with the support of a sub-award from the Kansas NASA Space Grant Consortium. In the 11-day teacher workshop, area K-12 teachers work with the LEGO Education SPIKE Prime set, a STEAM learning tool designedfor grades 6-8, which combines Lego with easy-to-use hardware and a drag-and-dropprogramming language based on Scratch.Teachers received hands-on training in a one-day boot camp at the start of the Workshop tofamiliarize them with the LEGO SPIKE system.  Teacher Participants then assisted through thetwo, week-long summer youth workshops, gaining hands-on teaching experience by mentoringteams of students.  This provided a unique hands-on training environment for the teachers,simulating utilization of the AIR

their careers. Currently, the United States lacksadequate infrastructure or capacity to support the teaching of AI in the K-12 curriculum. Toaddress these challenges, we introduce the use of visual media as a key bridge technology toengage students in grades 6-8 with AI topics, through a recent NSF funded ITEST program,labeled ImageSTEAM. Specifically, we focus on the idea of a computational camera, whichrethinks the sensing interface between the physical world and intelligent machines and enablesstudents to ponder how sensors and perception fundamentally will augment science andtechnology in the future. African American femalemiddle school participants in a summer program.In 2021, faculty in the Center for Cybersecurity Assurance and Policy (CAP) at Morgan State University(MSU) developed and implemented the GenCyber 'Females are Cyber Stars' (FACS) Summer Camp. ]. Studies show thatwhile parents have significant influence on students’ interest in STEM, both parents and friendshave significant influence on students’ career choice intention [6]. Role models can be apowerful influence on the way students view themselves and how they conduct their lives [5].In this study, male and female students’ interest in STEM was examined and its connection tothe presence of role models. Data was collected from summer outreach camps from 2017 to2022, although, because of COVID-19, years 2020 and 2021 are not included. These camps weredesigned to increase interest in STEM. workshop, what they enjoyed most about theworkshop, and to gauge their interest in pursuing an education in engineering. During its pilotprogramming from summer 2021 to 2022, the SWEET Program hosted nine workshop daysacross four workshop periods with 123 total workshop participants in grades 6, 7, and 8. Basedon the preliminary survey data collected, 94% of participants said they wished they learned moreabout topics such as engineering in their middle-school curriculum, and 95% of participants saidthe workshop content sparked their interest into the field of engineering. occurred in spring andfall of 2022. During these conversations, administrators were asked to reflect on theimplementation of the e4usa program at their school, their personal experiences with thisprocess, and barriers or suggestions in expanding this program both locally and more broadly.The transcripts of these interviews and focus groups were analyzed using descriptive coding [1]by two researchers. During this process the codes were categorized and then emergent themeswere identified. The findings indicate that administrators have a range of personal experiencewith implementing this engineering program, and that often these experiences were reported as abenefit to the entire school. for the purpose.In 2022, we undertook further development and improvement of the PADS as part of a researchproject to examine its validity and reliability when used to measure improvements in youths’capabilities to engage in productive problem solving. We added a second scenario, the “CarryBooks” scenario, as well as video with actors playing the part of characters in the scenarios. Bothversions of the PADS are hosted by the online survey platform Jotform, with the option to speakresponses instead of typing them (see linked Figures 1 & 2). The revised 2022 PADS can takebetween 10-40 minutes to complete, with younger children (age 8-9) tending to take longer tocomplete the assessment than older youths (age 13-14).Figure 1: https
