Research Council [5-6].New pedagogical approaches to EC include an increasing focus on topic-specific proceduralwriting; engineering-specific templates and citations; and highly structured assignments withclear applications and a team-based component. Studies have shown that engineering students inparticular respond best and perform better in technical writing tasks with clear deadlines, expectations, peer review phases, and rubric-based assessments [5].EC pedagogy is also changing as a result of the overall importance of engineering technical workrises in industry. Calling it the Communication Coefficient (CC) method, researchers advocatethat engineering students’ experiences in the communication classroom can be improved if theyare advised in

as a psychometrician, program evaluator, and data analyst, with research interests in spatial ability, creativity, engineering-integrated STEM education, and meta-analysis. As a psychometrician, she has revised, developed, and validated more than 10 instruments beneficial for STEM education practice and research. She has authored/co- authored more than 70 peer-reviewed journal articles and conference proceedings and served as a journal reviewer in engineering education, STEM education, and educational psychology. She has also served as a co-PI, an external evaluator, or an advisory board member on several NSF-funded projects. ©American Society for Engineering Education, 2023

walk. During this activity, students walk around the classroom and read their classmates’project results. For each assignment, they leave a comment – either an affirmation or asuggestion for improvement – on a sticky note. After this gallery walk concludes, students thentake turns presenting their homework results to the class. The instructional period shouldconclude with enough time left for students to write a brief reflection on how they mightincorporate feedback from their peers to improve their presentations. These reflections will beturned in as the final exit ticket of this mini-unit.ConclusionThe “Cool It!” mini-unit described above has been conceptualized following theories ofculturally-responsive and sustaining pedagogies, community

themodeling and analyses at the university research lab. Also, since she was not officially enrolled atthe university, she had to be given special access to the engineering lab and university computers. All these accommodations were made to give this student an opportunity to learn well beyondwhat her peers learned at her school.Advantages:Despite all the challenges, the student performed well. She was able to complete the design andanalysis of ALICE over the span of two semesters. As a result of getting involved in research andworking on this project, she learned how to perform research starting with literature review. Shelearned how to review and critique other research papers. She learned how to look up, review andanalyze the COTS components

engineeringgraduates.Research GoalsThis research project aligns with the university wide Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) initiative. The course makes it clear that the undergraduate research experience provides appropriatescaffolding. In other words, students learn some foundational information and gain researchexperiences. Junior students are paired with more experienced students to learn the technicalaspects of design. Short lectures / hands-on instruction is done throughout the semester. The courseis structured according to the best practices for collaborative projects. There are frequentopportunities for students to receive feedback from peers and the instructor at different phases ofthe research. Students get the opportunity to work individually and in teams. The

both groupsMethodsStudents were approached during a recitation period for AERO 201 and presented with a briefintroduction to both the NUA2NCED Laboratory and the experiment itself. The recitation periodoccurred from 9:10 AM to 10:00 AM in a lecture hall seating approximately 40 students. Afterthe introduction, a total of 37 students opted to participate in the experiment. The experiment as administered is divided into three segments: a pre-survey, two exam-formatproblems, and a post-survey. All materials were accessed online; participants were provided aseries of internet links to direct them to each component of the study. Each participant wasprovided a single sheet of paper on which to write any scratch work necessary to complete

Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM). • Process control, repeatability, and reproducibility studies. • Test plan writing. • Test report writing.Having advanced training in specific areas will always provide an advantage over their peers as theytransition into the workplace. The Industrial Advisory Boards (IAB) representing the degree programspreviously noted, have often voiced their desire for more specialized training in the areas noted, andthis project is an excellent mechanism to accomplish that. The testbed project provides students aneffective forum for learning these skills and mastering them at a professional level.6.0 STUDENT OUTCOMESOne of the primary goals of the initial phase of the Hybrid Rocket and High-Temperature

arespectful term for “interested parties.” Jennifer Tauli Corpuz, from the Kankana-ey Igorot People of MountainProvince in the Philippines, and Stanley Kimaren ole Riamit, an Indigenous peoples’ leader from the PastoralistsMaasai Community in southern Kenya, write a blog on how they are rights holders of their land, not stakeholdersthat need to negotiate their priorities [12], therefore making “stakeholders” a colonial and violent word forindigenous peoples. This change in language has also been adopted by the Center for Disease Control, IndigenousCorporate Training, and Lake Superior State University [13]–[15].the topic of satellite-mega constellations, which are groups of satellites that operate together tocover a vast span of the planet.
