Research Council [5-6].New pedagogical approaches to EC include an increasing focus on topic-specific proceduralwriting; engineering-specific templates and citations; and highly structured assignments withclear applications and a team-based component. Studies have shown that engineering students inparticular respond best and perform better in technical writing tasks with clear deadlines, expectations, peer review phases, and rubric-based assessments [5].EC pedagogy is also changing as a result of the overall importance of engineering technical workrises in industry. Calling it the Communication Coefficient (CC) method, researchers advocatethat engineering students’ experiences in the communication classroom can be improved if theyare advised in

walk. During this activity, students walk around the classroom and read their classmates’project results. For each assignment, they leave a comment – either an affirmation or asuggestion for improvement – on a sticky note. After this gallery walk concludes, students thentake turns presenting their homework results to the class. The instructional period shouldconclude with enough time left for students to write a brief reflection on how they mightincorporate feedback from their peers to improve their presentations. These reflections will beturned in as the final exit ticket of this mini-unit.ConclusionThe “Cool It!” mini-unit described above has been conceptualized following theories ofculturally-responsive and sustaining pedagogies, community

themodeling and analyses at the university research lab. Also, since she was not officially enrolled atthe university, she had to be given special access to the engineering lab and university computers. All these accommodations were made to give this student an opportunity to learn well beyondwhat her peers learned at her school.Advantages:Despite all the challenges, the student performed well. She was able to complete the design andanalysis of ALICE over the span of two semesters. As a result of getting involved in research andworking on this project, she learned how to perform research starting with literature review. Shelearned how to review and critique other research papers. She learned how to look up, review andanalyze the COTS components

Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM). • Process control, repeatability, and reproducibility studies. • Test plan writing. • Test report writing.Having advanced training in specific areas will always provide an advantage over their peers as theytransition into the workplace. The Industrial Advisory Boards (IAB) representing the degree programspreviously noted, have often voiced their desire for more specialized training in the areas noted, andthis project is an excellent mechanism to accomplish that. The testbed project provides students aneffective forum for learning these skills and mastering them at a professional level.6.0 STUDENT OUTCOMESOne of the primary goals of the initial phase of the Hybrid Rocket and High-Temperature
