ACCESS leadership team in virtual communicationand how to interact with a professional. Scholars practiced writing emails and learned moreabout the structure of the program during onboarding. Program ambassadors were introduced tocross-age mentoring strategies and engaged with Cultivate ACCESS leadership through weeklyexperiential learning class sessions. One month into the onboarding phase ambassadors werepaired with scholars. Ambassadors completed one face-to-face peer mentoring session withscholars and connected weekly to assist scholars in learning how to navigate virtualcommunication channels.Mentors were recruited and trained during onboarding. The onboarding phase allowed CultivateACCESS leadership the opportunity to learn more about

purpose of these courses is to introduce students to the discipline, toteach fundamental skills in engineering methods, calculations, designs, and computer aideddesigns, and to build a sense of community through team work, communication skills, andservice-learning. The tremendous increase of students in the program has led to shifts in the 2-course sequence. This paper will present the 2-course sequence with a focus on recent changesto accommodate a higher student to faculty ratio, as well as course instructors workingtogether to ensure a seamless transition between courses, including continuity in designprojects. Specific changes include using peer mentors in large classes, a focus on careerknowledge and skill building through these courses, and

As there is no BAEN specific exam, the‘Other Disciplines’ exam is used here as a stand in; however, BAEN students have been knownto excel at other FE discipline exams [12].Results The 10 Learning Outcome (LO) areas identified were: 1. Engineering Core + Foundation: 4. Professional and Technical as defined above Writing/Communication 2. System Design Theory and 5. Macro- and Microbiology, Practice: defining structure, Physiology architecture, and data of a system 6. Economics and Optimization to satisfy specified requirements 7. Electronics

averages. This suggests that there may be other factors that promote student success inengineering that merits further investigation. The Rising Scholars program was developed toexplore these additional predictive success factors. Initial data from the program appears to showthat RS are performing at a statistically enhanced level in retention and GPA compared with theirengineering direct-admit and exploratory studies peers [5]. The value of experiential experienceswithin the RS program is presented in [6]. This paper concentrates on the cultural aspects of theprogram borrowed from the close-knit, supportive culture of Biological & AgriculturalEngineering departments.II. , and Learning. Student responses were most often coded as InterpersonalRelationships (67% of responses) as their greatest success and Acclimating (38%) as theirbiggest challenge (Figure 1).Most student successes coded as Relationships reflected building community with their peers asa success. For example, one student commented ‘I consider my greatest success for my first year, which was this year, was all of the different people I have met, and the connections made whether it’s been the classmates in my [ASMT] classes or the friends I made from joining Alpha Gamma Rho. Coming here from California
