sustainable solutions for water, food, energy, and related systems. Post graduationplacement rates have ranged from 66.7%-100% from December 2020-December 2023 and thedepartment is committed to further improving student success. By enhancing career guidanceand strengthening connections with industries and alumni, the program aimed to assist inbridging the gap between academic learning and successful job placement and careersatisfaction. The BENG Mentor Program was established as a mutually beneficial connection betweenindustry mentors and current biological engineering students. The program was designed topromote professional development by connecting students with experienced engineers in fieldsrelated to food, water, and energy. Through this

include a select cohort of high school students, veterans, aswell as junior and senior undergraduate students within engineering and biology concentrations.Participants will complete content knowledge questions at the end of each module. Students willalso take the Career Connect Student Survey (i.e., soft skills) and the self-efficacy measures (i.e.,generalized self-efficacy, bioengineering self-efficacy, short form occupational self-efficacy),before taking any curriculum modules and then again after they complete the training program.MeasuresSoft Skills To assess soft skill development, we utilize components of an existing validated survey, the Career Connect Student Survey. This survey measures student self-perceptions in areas suchas time

, whereinstudents have greater control over their own learning with instructors only acting as facilitators[2]. Being self-directed about one’s learning is a major component of andragogy [3]. Self-directed learning requires metacognitive skills, an ability to control one’s learning. Such skillscan be taught [4] and need to be developed throughout undergraduate studies, including inengineering, for successful academic experiences in college [5] and careers [6].Reflection can encourage students to think critically about their own learning, behaviors, andexperiences in ways that lead to personal growth (e.g., [7]), improved academic performance(e.g., [8]), and professional identity (e.g., [9], [10]). Reflection activities when implementedwithin a course

)Support for STEM learning and career The smart farm kit proved particularly effective in broadening prior knowledge, interconnecting concepts, and facilitating real understanding of previously unclear ideas. “I didn’t know how to connect certain sensors or where to place resistors, but I searched online, went through trial and error, and eventually figured it out” (M2) “While this activity didn’t involve Arduino, I’ve previously used Micro:bit and sensors to make an automatic trash can. Back then, block coding made me the process quite complicated, but this time, coding in C/C++ text gave me a real understanding of programming, which felt fresh.” (M8) “Before making the smart farm kit, I participated in a school project

a collaborative, interdisciplinaryenvironment where students from diverse backgrounds worked together toward shared researchgoals, preparing them for careers in STEM fields.2B. Student Involvement in Experimental Setup, Lua Programming, Data Collection, andAnalysisAs part of the experiential learning initiative in sustainable lunar agriculture, undergraduatestudents and summer exchange interns played an integral role in designing and conductingexperiments using advanced agricultural technologies. Under the supervision of faculty, post-doctoral associates, and graduate students, they engaged in hands-on research involving the setupof FarmBot and Tower Garden systems, programming automation sequences using Lua, collectingplant growth data

careers [8].Recent business education models further highlight the importance of teamwork, criticalthinking, and real-world applications in modern education systems [9,10]. By presentingstudents with realistic challenges, gamification gives them decision-making capabilities that areessential in professional environments. Compared to conventional teaching methods, game-basedstrategies have demonstrated a higher success rate in achieving learning objectives [11].In alignment with these findings, the primary focus of this research was to investigate howstrategy-based activities supported learning and motivation in an engineering project class. Thisapproach aims to improve the learning process and outcomes [12]. Additionally, strategy-basedactivities
