thirteen undergraduate students who participated in the program in2012. Five of the 13 students worked directly with a faculty member and eight students wereassigned a graduate student mentor in addition to working with faculty mentor. This studyfocused only on the eight undergraduate students who were assigned a graduate student mentor.Of the eight students, six students attended four-year universities and two attended localcommunity colleges. Four of the student attending four-year universities had declared/planned tomajor in biomedical engineering, one in bioelectronics, and one in industrial engineering andeconomics. Given a basicschematic for a flow loop that incorporates the flow sensor and pressure taps leading to thetransducer, students are instructed to devise an experimental plan to measure the pressure dropper length for a segment of tubing containing a wire (inserted via the catheter introducer set),matching the dimensions and other parameters used in the analytical approach. In particular,students are cautioned that they must account for minor losses arising from the pressure taps ateither end of the arterial model. the course. I was very moved by my experiences in Guatemala. The things I had heard and read became reality…I hope to learn more about global health and to make some improvements however possible. This course made me aware of global health, and got me very interested in looking for jobs in this area. I now have a deeper understanding of the health issues of foreign countries, and know of some ways to help. Wish I could learn more, plan to do so.
